It’s time to win with GetSmarter
As you all know by now, I have just completed my GetSmarter online course in Interior Design which I have written about on the blog a few times – I can’t believe how much I’ve learnt over the past 10 weeks. It’s one of those things where you don’t really realise that you are learning until you start reflecting on what you’ve actually done. I went to a dinner the other night where I sat next to an Interior Designer who has been working in the industry for a few years and thanks to this course, I actually could have a full-on chat about Interior Design!

Develop the core skills required to design and decorate interior spaces and practically apply this knowledge by creating 3D models in SketchUp, an industry standard program. This course will benefit self-made or aspiring interior designers who want to establish themselves in the industry.

From my experience, with a really busy day job and a blog, this is do-able – so there is no excuse of being too busy. I have still managed to have a life and complete my studies, you just have to be very diligent about setting aside time and, more importantly, choose something you are passionate about!

Aaah, this is a tough one! I'd love to do the social media course, since I recently took the very big step of resigning from my day job and started working from home as a social media manager, so it would be great to improve my skills. Love, love, love this competition! I'm actually in week seven of ten of the Get Started Marketing course, and learning so much. It really has helped in my way of thinking about marketing products and brands. Together with this I know that social media plays such an important role – it has been touched on somewhat in the current course but to delve into it even more with the social media course would be brilliant.
My current course has been paid for by my employers, but I know approaching them to pay for another course right now wouldn't go down very well, and affording the course on my own is not something I can budget for.

When I did at an internship at Zoom Advertising in 2011, right across from the Ogilvy offices (where I paid a lot of visits) I got to see how things work in the Advertising, Marketing and PR world. When I was there you were still working in their PR department, and I thought, one day, I'll have that job!
I'm studying Brand Communications at Vega, and this Diploma will hopefully propel me into a PR, Events Management, Brand Management or Brand Strategy field. But, I would love to do something more. I am obsessed with everything to do with social networking and have managed a business account before, but that was when I was fresh out of high school and didn't know nearly as much as I thought I did.
I was actually looking into doing a Get Smarter course a few months ago, specifically the Social Media one, but as you know, being a student, even with part-time jobs here and there – funds are low. I would LOVE to gain experience from this Social Media course and be able to proudly put it on my CV.
As I am planning to graduate at the end of this year, I really feel like I would have a better chance of getting a foot in the door if I had the privilege of learning through a Get Smarter/UCT course, as I feel that they have a great reputation and businesses take their courses seriously.

I currently run the social media side of online marketing for two prestigious business papers. However, the fact that most people in the office are older than me (and tend to believe that social media is silly), is somewhat discouraging.

I'm supposed to be in my last year at university, (BA degree majoring in English & Communications) unfortunately I couldn't get funds to go back so now I'm working to pay off my fees and I would really love to take up the Social Media short course as out ties in with my Communitions major.
