Review: CHANEL LES BEIGES HEALTHY GLOW FOUNDATION

My first ever Chanel make up item landed on my desk about a month ago and I literally have not been able to stop staring at it, plus I refuse to throw the box away! I actually have no idea why I haven’t owned a Chanel item before, I guess I haven’t really known where to start and knowing what I know now; the foundations are a pretty good starting point.

My sister is an avid Chanel make up user – it’s pretty much all she uses and what she swears by. She actually bought me my first ever Chanel lipstick this past weekend and promised me “you will never want to use anything else!’ – she’s probably right. The foundation is the brand new Les Beiges Healthy Glow from Chanel and it launches this month in South Africa (17 Feb to be exact). As a die-hard BB cream/tinted moisturiser kinda-gal I can find a foundation quite daunting, never-mind a semi-matte formulation, as I’m all about that dewy glow. Anyway, I’ve been testing this for a couple of weeks now and here are my thoughts: The actual formula is quite thick and not liquidy like the Vitalumiere that I have tried from my sister. It comes in a pump bottle with a lid (ummm NARS Sheer Glow take note) so is good for travelling, however, being Chanel the bottle is glass and quite solid so not the lightest.

I applied this initially with a fluffy foundation brush but then opted for my fingers as I did the whole minimal application aka Lisa-Eldridge-look which worked really well with this product. The coverage is what I would call medium, and I guess pretty build-able if you want that effect. It dried down to the perfect middle ground between a glowey finish and a more matte look – the only real way to describe this would be that my skin has never looked that ‘skin’like’ and au-natural whilst wearing a foundation. I loved how it blended into my skin, without sitting on it and it felt like it nourished my drier areas of my face without looking cakey in the slightest. If this product is anything to go by then my love for this brands make up items is only just beginning – everything about the foundation from the packaging and formula to the smell and the effect was absolutely spot on! The shade that I got sent to test wasn’t my perfect match (a tad light), however, I made it work with some bronzing powder and I have no doubt it will work well for the winter months. The shade range we are going to have here are as follows: Beige 10, 20, 30, 32, 40, 50, 60 and 70 and Caramel 91 and 121 and the foundation retails at R785.

Hi Tori, thanks for letting me know on Instagram about the post, I must have missed it.

I'm so glad this one worked for you and for the glowing review. I'll try and get a sample of this one in my shade. I love Vitalumiere in winter and I wear Perfection Lumiere Velvet in summer time.

Your sister is absolutely right – Chanel makeup is the best. It is a splurge, but I'd rather have products I'm excited to use. I love their make-up.

Pleasure Melinda. Yes, this would be a good bet for summer. Had never thought of that combo for the seasons, so thanks for the tip 🙂
