1890: Sushi Heaven

Obz Gem…

I think sushi and immediately think Minato’s, Beluga, Sevruga or Food Lovers, until now. My lovely friend Max kindly introduced me to 1890, in Observatory. Don’t expect suave decor, amazing service, or a pretty area because you will be incredibly let down – however do definitely expect outstanding sushi for next to nothing.

Rumour has it that this is the only place Luke Dale Roberts will eat sushi in Cape Town (speaking of which, I am dying to try the new Test Kitchen in the Biscuit Mill owned by the man himself). Back to 1890, the platters are unreal, think 4 salmon roses, 4 rainbow rolls and 4 fashion sandwiches for R80! My favourite rolls were the tiger rolls (4 for R32)! This platter below was around R60 – if I remember correctly. I do know that if you live in the Southern Suburbs you can order them through Mr Delivery. Bonus!

Give them a try, and don’t expect… just enjoy… (and laugh at the Japanese waiters who don;t stop smiling and nodding.)
