On the mascara hunt…

What mascara do you swear by?

I cannot quite tell you how gatvol(*) I am of breaking the bank on some ‘brand new, insanely high tech and innovative’ mascara from the high-end brands that I love, only to be bitterly disappointed with the result it gives me.

I am desperate to hear your recommendations, be it high end or a trusted cheapie. Not only for me, but I have heard this debate going on only too often, or get asked which mascara I use myself. A follow up post will be done collating all the top choices for those of you who are on the endless hunt like me. So do share your choice below in the comments or tweet me / write on KBT Facebook page – whatever you choose, just do let me know 🙂

I look forward to hearing from you 🙂

*gatvol = sick of it

My absolute favourite mascara at the moment is L'Oreal Telescopic, it creates incredible length and that wide-eyed effect. If you're looking for more voluminous, fanned-out lashes then L'Oreal Volume Millions is AMAZING too. Can't remember if you can get Max Factor in SA but if you can the False Lash effect is brilliant. I'm a fan of plastic mascara wands, as opposed to bristles, they just work so much better for me – so all the above have plastic bristles.x

Mascara X from MAC. Or you can never go wrong with the original and first, Maybelline Great Lash. I don't think you're a real girl until you've owned one of those iconic bright green and pink wands 🙂

MAC ones are pretty good. I've used the Plush Lash and Zoomlash before and were very happy with both. Plush Lash creates a more curled and refined lash, separating each hair. The Zoomlash is more dramatic – but if I want drama I just pop on false lashes so I'm not too concerned about that.

My el cheapo is MaxFactor False Lash Effect Fushion (purple tube). This works well if you're on a budget. That being said I'll most likely revert back to the MAC ones once my MaxFactor tube is finished.

If you totally want to splurge I adore Dior Show mascaras. They also have another one called Dior Extase. This one is FABULOUS – it creates massive length – the closes to false lashes if you ask me. The only problem is this stuff is HARD to get off at the end of the night – and panda eyes are not very sexy 🙁 But I suppose if you invest in a good eye make up remover then you'd be hundreds.

Hope it helps! Let me know if you find something better!

At the moment I'm loving Bourjois 1001 Lashes Black Quartz Mascara. (R120) It does wonders for my eyelashes. 🙂 ♥

MAC Opulash is by far my favourite! Even better if you get the prep and prime to go with it, really does give eyelashes incredible length! Using Opulash without the Prep and Prime is just perfect though for someone with already long dark eyelashes. I used to use the original MAC mascara, which I think they actually no longer sell because it went clumpy and rather disgusting. Make sure to get the Opulash, I have never had a problem! While you are there take your empty make up containers to MAC, 10 empties gets you a free Lipstick!

I also really struggle to find a mascara that works for me.
I recently bought the Revlon – Grow Luscious Plumping and I love it. It separates, increases the length of my lashes and never but never leaves lumps of mascara on my lashes. Only thing is, it dried out faster than some others I have tried. Hope your search turns out successful.

Dior Extase is my all time best! Just purchased Benefit "They're Real" mascara – my lashes have NEVER looked so long.
Think it depends what you want but Dior really has mastered make up <3

I switch between L'Oreal Telescopic, MAC Zoom Lash and Lancome Hypnose Dolls Eye mascara – I've tried MANY mascaras, and these are the ones that work best for me.

I've been on the hunt for so long for mascara that doesn't run in humidity & stays on all day. The best I do swear by is Avon Super Shock Mascara. I've tried all mascaras from YSL, Lancome & Estee Lauder's Sumptuous Extreme Lash Multiplying Volume Mascara is also good but it smears in humidity. Try Avon Super Shock Mascara:) xx

I am like you, always on the hunt. Now I read a thousand reviews before I buy another one. One mascara that has received great reviews as MAC haut & naughty lash. Bought one and it is great! Does not give that much length, but great volume.

After using so many different high end ones I tried Bourjois 1001 Lashes Black Quartz Mascara and am very impressed! It makes my lashes long but isn't clumpy and boy does it last. Definitely worth a try.

My cheapie of choice: Rimmel Volume Flash X10 – I think it's like R89 at Clicks or something. But it gives great volume.

Must say… Dior Backstage is the absolute best! Completely waterproof and smudge free! People ask me daily where I get my lashes done 🙂

It's crazy, but I recently tried an Essence mascara (they're like, R40, so if they don't work too well it doesn't matter). I figured, at the price I'd give it a bash and bought 2 different ones.. One is the I <3 Extreme volume mascara. It works beautifully and gives lots of volume, and comes off easily with make up remover. I also tried the False Lash effect one and it was amazing.. Two coats and it looked like I was genuinely wearing false eyelashes!
