A day out in JHB: Kloofzicht Lodge & Spa with Matsimela

On Easter weekend, Marc and I visited the Kloofzicht Lodge and Spa for a pampering session and it was an absolute treat.

The spa is situated about 40 minutes outside of Joburg, which makes it a really manageable day out. The spa is in Muldersdrift which makes you feel like you are a million miles away from the chaos of the city. It really does feel like a proper escape, being surrounded by tranquil hills and nature. Always so good for the soul. I would definitely recommend visiting this area, it’s so close by and just so calm and beautiful.

We checked in for their Autumn Spa Package in their double treatment room, which was really comfortable and spacious. The package included a tension relieving back massage for 45 minutes, an ESSE mini Facial for 30 minutes and a sole soother foot treatment for 30 minutes. All the body treatments made use of the local spa products from Matsimela, which all felt seriously indulgent and luxurious.

Both Marc and my therapists really were outstanding, and I would definitely say that the treatment quality is what made the day such a treat! Our massages were deep and got to all the right knots and bits of tension. I loved the facial (such a fan of ESSE skincare) and, what was possibly my favourite part, the 30 minute foot treatment. The Matsimelafoot scrub took off every bit of dead skin cells (it’s SERIOUSLY scrubby) and, after this was removed with hot compresses, our feet were dipped into a beautifully warm, oil-based paraffin wax and left to soak up all the goodness during the facial. I can’t tell you the level of relaxation!

Our day was finished off with a lunch at the spa kitchen – the staff were all unbelievable; so friendly and never rushing us, just ensuring we had the best visit. Marc and I both left and promised ourselves we will return soon, we felt like we had been away the whole weekend, when in fact it was just the morning. Such a treat!
